Several updates for 2021 make the Silverado even more capable of substantial towing duties. The diesel and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine options now offer higher towing capacities than before, and when the truck is fully equipped for towing, it can pull as much as 13,300 pounds. The truck can also be equipped with new trailering assistance tools like the trailer length indicator, which helps you determine if you have enough room to change lanes. It also offers a jackknife indicator to bring your attention to the trailer’s motion. Chevy also offers a convenient Multi-Flex tailgate that can be configured in six unique ways.
The Chevy Silverado derives from the C/K line of Chevy trucks, which was manufactured between 1960 and 1999. The first pickup with the Silverado name debuted in 1999, as a light-duty pickup with two cab configurations (regular and extended) and three bed lengths (short, standard, and long). During its first generation the Silverado received several design updates including a reworked front and rear end in 2003. The 2004 model year saw the introduction of a hybrid version of the Silverado, a rarity among full-size trucks at the time.
The second generation rolled out in 2007, with a new interior and exterior design and a new engine. It was tougher than ever with its new higher-strength steel frame, and was applauded by drivers and critics alike for its durability, utility, and overall excellence.
With each passing model year, the Silverado gained upgrades and updates designed to appeal to drivers seeking the best of the best in their pickup truck. Following a major redesign in 2019, this iconic truck is poised to continue raising the bar for other full-size pickups for many years to come.
